Sensei Frank Brennan instructed at one of his regular USKFI seminars recently. There was a strong turnout of approximately 70 students, with visitors from as far afield as Scotland. With several USKFI members due to take senior dan gradings in October, as well as increased numbers due for first and second dan in November, Sensei concentrated mainly on grading requirements.
The class concentrated on the special dan combinations followed by working on various free attacks, making sure the attacks were full and not cut short in anticipation of being blocked and countered. The class also worked on their grading katas, with seniors studying katas Sochin, Bassai Sho and Jitte. Sensei also made sure students worked on timing, hip movement and leg strength and stability during the kata sequences.
The USKFI looks forward to having Sensei Brennan back with Sensei Sherry in November for the second dan grading of the year.
