Sensei Andy Sherry 8th Dan, Chief Instructor of the KUGB returned to Dubln last week to conduct another successful brown and black belt course. The course, divided into two 1 1/2 hour classes, began with partner work immediately after the warm-up. Sensei Sherry took the class though a number of combinations that combined fast footwork with dynamic and accurate techniques. Students had to concentrate on the accuracy of their technique as well as working on different footwork combinations, an apect often neglected in partner work.
In the second class students worked on compulsory grading katas, with brown belts working on their Heian katas and black belts on kata Hangetsu. Sensei Sherry went over each movement in detail before students performed the kata as a whole. The class then studied their own grading kata in fine detail before finishing on a compulsory kata of their choice. Again, Sensei left no stone unturned as he helped students perfect the finer details of their katas. Several students are hoping to take a dan grading this year and the day's course proved invaluable for this.
All those who attended benefitted hugely from the course and the feedback from everyone, including those from other associations, was very positive. Sensei Sherry will return to Dublin for a brown and black belt course and dan grading in April.
